‘Earth Wind For Hire’ – the pun intended!- are a band who I had the good fortune to stumble across while attending an event in London recently. No one who was there that night would have believed it – they were sensational, absolutely brilliant!
They were fronted by 3 vocalists who were all “aurally and optically” a delight. They were carried along by a very together 6-piece rhythm section comprising of guitars, keyboards, brass, bass and drums producing a beat that was both relentless and totally infectious. Their music, a mix of upbeat 70s soul, funk and disco classics had the very mixed age audience up on their feet, physically unable to keep still. We were having fun and the place was rocking.
Their exciting rendition of ‘Pick up the Pieces’ reminded me of many years ago and a first outing of a band, media launch at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho. That night we were hooked by The Average White Band. This time we all got hooked again…Earth Wind’s FOR HIRE – and that sounds great to me!!!’
